David O'Byrne, MP, Minister for Infrastructure, Media Release
8 February 2011
The Infrastructure Minister, David O’Byrne, today released comprehensive survey results showing how, where and why people are travelling in and around Hobart.
The Greater Hobart Household Travel Survey is the first of its kind in Tasmania, involving face-to-face interviews with more than 2,400 households (or more than 5,300 people) between July 2008 and July 2009.
“This survey is a fantastic strategic tool,” Mr O’Byrne.
“It gives us the detailed information we need to plan Hobart’s future infrastructure needs, and better implement our existing transport strategies.
“This is great research for working out where infrastructure like roads, bridges and public transport are most needed, and most in demand,” he said.
Those strategies include the Tasmanian Urban Passenger Transport Framework, the Tasmanian Walking and Cycling for active Transport Strategy, and the Southern Integrated Transport Plan.
