Local Council's lead by example

Local government authorities are leading by example, to reduce green house gas emissions due to the activities of their daily work routines.  Several councils now have bicycle fleets for their staff to utilise for site visits and meetings within the local area, reducing the need for council fleet vehicles.  Some of the councils that already have bike fleets are; Marrickville, Waverley, Shaolhaven and Willoughby City Council.

Waverly Council's bicycle fleet includes one power assisted bike, while Marrickville has two, very useful in a hilly environment.  Councils require any staff using the bicycles to be fully trained in on-road cycling and road safety.  Marrickville Council's staff were trained using the nationally accreditted AustCycle Training course.
