Healthy Connected Communities, released in September 2011 by SA Health, explains the benefits of well-designed Transit Oriented Developments (TODs) in plain language. It is intended for a broad audience, including community members. The report includes a case-study of the Bowden TOD (the first to be rolled-out as part of the 30 Year Plan).

The 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide (the Plan) supports South Australia’s drive towards sustainable population growth, urban development and job creation. It also recognises that development centred on cars has made many environments hostile to walking and cycling, and has contributed to health, social and environmental concerns such as obesity, social
isolation and poorer air quality. Through walkable urban villages, the Plan recognises the significant influence of urban form on population health – acknowledging how our wellbeing is influenced by the places we live in. This brochure looks at these developments… through a health lens.
