Business is Better by Bike Awards, Devon

Bicycle England, Dept for Transport

Devon County Council’s Cycle Exeter project ran an awards scheme, in association with the Exeter Chamber of Commerce, to find the most cycle-friendly employers in Exeter. Over 3,000 businesses across the city were invited to take part.

The purpose is to reward organisations that actively promote cycling and to encourage them to maintain this support over a sustained period. Workplaces are invited to complete a ‘Cycle Friendly Checklist’, and as a result, are immediately awarded either the Bronze, Silver or Gold award. Marks will be awarded in several areas: cycle facilities, incentives, promotion and events. Successful workplaces then receive a Business is Better by Bike logo (in Bronze, Silver or Gold) to be used on their websites and letterheads.

To launch the new scheme, the Cycle Exeter team held a business breakfast in one of Exeter’s most exclusive hotels. Directors and senior managers from over 20 companies in the city attended to hear about the new scheme and remind them why ‘Business is Better by Bike’!
