Australian Bicycle Network Signage Strategies

A number of bicycle network signage strategies produced by state and local government are now publicly available. The following list provides links to signage strategies produced by the Queensland Government, NSW Government, Parramatta City Council, City of Sydney and Brisbane City Council. 

State Government

Queensland's Guide to signing cycle networks was released in 2009 and provides a thorough overview of specific bicycle route signage requirements.

Queensland's TRUM manual 1.36 Queensland Cycle network Directional Signage Guidelines, also released in 2009, acts as a supplement to the Queensland Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). This publication advises on more technical matters such as integration with other signage systems.

State and Local Government Partnership Projects

The RTA and Parramatta City Council are working in partnership to trial time-to-destination signage. The eight signs, at three distinct locations, all at Rydalmere, show the distance and the time to the destination, based on a riding speed of 15 km/h. 

 

Local Government

City of Sydney released their Bicycle Network Signage Guidelines in 2010.
