Australian Scholarships for Women

The Australian Sports Commission is pleased to announce the introduction of Scholarships as part of the Sport Leadership Grants for Women.

 

These scholarships are aimed at women who are already established at a reasonable level in sport to assist them in attaining prominent leadership roles within sporting organisations.  The scholarships follow a Pathway Plan over a three year period, developing and mentoring the recipients along the way.

 

Scholarships are available in the following areas:

  • Coaching
  • Officiating
  • Governance
  • Management / Administration
  • Communications / Media / Marketing

 

Successful applicants of a Sport Leadership Pathway Scholarship will receive up to $10,000 per annum for three years.

 

The successful applicants will be required to enter an agreement and to provide a Pathway Plan detailing selected courses, professional development opportunities and objectives.   It is anticipated that these women will, as they progress along their pathway, develop leadership and management skills and will affect change therefore increasing the involvement of women across all areas of the sport.

 

The Australian Sports Commission will further enhance the scholarship program through provision of:

 

  • Mentorships - The ASC will match successful applicants with an appropriate mentor. Successful applicants and the mentors will contribute to the matching or selection of the partnering.  It is anticipated that the scholarship recipients will, as they progress along their Pathway will at some point become a Mentor themselves.

 

  • Professional learning opportunities - ASC will arrange practical learning opportunities through placements in AIS / ASC programs. The ASC & AIS are best placed to provide the most valuable of learning...practical, hands on experience.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a Sport Leadership Pathway Scholarship, individuals must be:

  • female;
  • involved in a paid or volunteer capacity at a local, state or national level in the sport industry;
  • identified or have aspirations to move into prominent leadership roles, state or
  • national level in the sport industry;
  • available to attend an ASC Sport Leadership Workshop;
  • an Australian citizen or have been granted permanent residence status;
  • aged 18 years or more; and
  • supported by a sporting organisation affiliated with a sport that is recognised by the ASC - please refer to www.ausport.gov.au/about/australian_sport_directory for list of ASC recognised sports.
