Maps can make a bicycle journey safer and more enjoyable by helping to choose a smarter route. An increasing number of maps are available, specifically designed to assist bicycle riders find bicycle paths, on road bicycle lanes and public transport links.

San Francisco Bicycle Coalition Maps and Route Finder (USA)

The San Francisco Bike Map & Walking Guide shows existing bike routes, paths, and bike lanes, and indicates the grade of a street so you can avoid the steep hills. The map is published by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. Their website has links to maps of the surrounding areas and their online route finder BikeMapper.

Google Maps: Bike There (USA)

In Oct 2010 Google Maps added a 'Bike There' feature for 150 American cities. This video shows how the system works and the link provides further information about the initial and ongoing development of the tool.
